Shook

1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.  3 And one called to another and said:“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” 4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. Isaiah 6:1-4

The result of Isaiah seeing God as High and Lifted up and putting God in His rightful place and experiencing the Holiness of God is that the foundation of the temple began to shake and then Isaiah himself began to shake. This is what happened to men who experienced the Holiness of God. This is what happens to men who fear God. Their entire life is shook.

We are so casual in our Christianity. We are so casual in our life in how we treat God. This is not the proper stance of our sanctification. When a believer experiences the presence of God, his life should be forever changed. His soul should be shook. This comes from the power of God alone.

Instead, we are pursuing after some emotionally-charged experience. We want the lights dimmed, the music blaring and the song leader to set the mood for us. At this point, then maybe our emotions will be aligned just right to have some sort of “experience” as it were.

But this is not what it means to fear God. The Fear of God indicates that you stand in awe of God. Understanding that there is trembling within your soul. This is to be “shook” by the presence of God I your life. An understanding that you take God very, very seriously. A commitment that you take God more seriously than anything or anyone in your life. You have a respect. You have reverence. It is a state of wander in your heart towards God. It is an amazement towards God.

The Fear of God is a worshipping heart in which God is viewed as Yahweh, the GREAT I AM, and we see ourselves as very tiny compared to God. The Fear of God is to recognize God for who He is. It is putting God in His rightful place. Recognizing Him as having the right over my life. Seeing Him just as Isaiah saw Him, “High and lifted up!”

It is being astounded with the greatness of the Glory of God. Recognizing Him as Holy. “Holy! Holy! Holy! Is the Lord God Almighty!” HOLY IS HE! And we recognize His greatness and His holiness SO MUCH that the natural result is for us to honor Him. And to worship Him. And to obey Him.
